The tourist sites are spread across the length of the Thailand map. In the mountainous North is the ancient city of Chiang Mai, the remote mountains of Mae Hong Son and Pai, and the intrique of the Golden Triangle at the Mekhong river.
Bangkok is the centre of all Thailand maps, seated in the bight of Thailand’s gulf, with the ruins of Ayuthaya 100kms North. Within easy reach is the WWII history of Kanchanaburi to the west, the nightlife delights of Pattaya to the southeast and the popular seaside town of Hua Hin to the Southwest.
The south of Thailand presents some interesting geography on maps of the region, including the narrow isthmus of Kra. Just below this is the island of Phuket and drammatic karst coastline of Krabi – including Phi Phi. Over on the East coast are the popular islands of Samui, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao.
The east and Northeast regions on the map of Thailand are lesser visited but still has their attractions. Tiny Koh Samet and eco-destination Koh Chang are two lovely islands along the southeast coast. The Northeast is the heartland of rural Thailand – a dry area known as Isaan with true Asian character and a number of Khmer ruins dotting maps of this area of Thailand.
