City officials in Chiang Mai recently confirmed the schedule of events and activities for the 2018 Songkran Festival. The schedule will follow a similar format to those in previous years and includes the highlight heritage parade on the 13 April. Songkran related activities will be taking place on the 13, 14 and 15 April.
The day kicks off early on the thirteenth with a merit making rite at the plaza next to Thapae Gate. Buddhists make merit with the likes of dried food, fruit and flowers. The first floats of the main Songkran parade will set off from the front of Chiang Mai Railway Station at 13:00. The parade follows a route west to the River Ping. After Narawat Bridge, the parade continues to Thapae Gate, into the Old City and on to the finish line at Wat Phra Singh. Thapae is the venue for additional entertainment on the evening of the 13th.
