Bangkok Airways flight deals

9 May 2011

Thai carrier Bangkok Airways has announced a flight promotional campaign for services from Bangkok to southern Samui Island. A discounted round trip ticket priced at 4,300 Baht all inclusive will be available on 250 seats daily in each direction.

The offer is available to all passengers and travel agents and begins on 12 May and runs through to 31 July. The deal will be introduced in conjunction with the Ultimate Destination expo, which also starts on 12 May, at Bangkok’s Siam Paragon Shopping Mall.

Announcing the discounted flight deals, Bangkok Airways’ vice president Nandhika Varavarn said that the offer, designed to help Samui get back on its feet after recent flooding, would be the first of several discount campaigns the airline would run during the coming months.

Heavy rains and floods inundated Koh Samui at the end of March and left many shops, restaurants and hotels with their ground floors submerged. Since then, despite a well-publicised clean up operation, the Thai tropical paradise has struggled to attract visitors.

Hoteliers on the island say they are currently running at 30 per cent occupancy after the flooding. This figure is well below normal guest numbers for this time of year.

Samui tourist officials hope that Bangkok Airways’ promotional campaign as well as hotel room discounts will lure visitors back. A return Bangkok Airways flight from Bangkok to Samui usually retails somewhere between 6,600 and 12,000 Baht, depending on flight time and availablity.
