Philippine airline ups Bangkok flights
4 Oct 2011
Cebu Pacific has announced that it will be increasing flight frequencies between Bangkok and Manila. The changes come into effect on 7 January 2012 and are a part of a general expansion of the budget carrier’s flights to its most popular destinations.
Cebu Pacific president Lance Gokongwei stated in a recent interview that the airline would be increasing frequencies on routes where there was passenger demand. The round-trip flights between the Philippines and Bangkok will be raised from the current once a day to 10 flights weekly.
At the same time, Mr Gokongwei said that the flight frequencies between Manila and Kuala Lumpur would be doubled and there would also be increases on routes serving Singapore, Brunei and Beijing as well as to certain domestic airports.
Cebu Pacific is scheduled to take delivery of four new Airbus A320s between October and January which has given it the scope to expand its flight timetable.
The additional flights between Thailand and Manila allow long-stay tourists in Thailand an alternative choice of location for visa runs and also for obtaining a new visa for the kingdom. Cebu Pacific often runs sales promotions which provide tickets at heavily discounted prices.
Cebu Pacific ranked a creditable third in the category of regional budget carrier on internet travel magazine Smart Travel Asia’s the Best in Travel Poll 2011. AirAsia, which flies numerous Thai domestic and international routes, came first in the poll.
